The heartstone Story

My name is Carol and I am a graduate of NCAD – Dublin and the Ravenna Mosaic School – Italy. I have been communicating the stories of products and businesses for nearly two decades – yet my greatest design challenge came when something deeply personal happened. Our parents died three months apart, and I wanted to design a final gift for them, something artistic and durable – something they would be truly proud of.

Dismayed at the repetitive looking headstones available I undertook the design of a headstone myself.  The ethereal timeless quality of mosaic has been proven over generations. I used mosaic as the starting point for my designs. The journey led me to the home of mosaic – Ravenna, Italy, where I studied flooring and portraiture. When I returned to Ireland I started investigating – researching headstones and cemeteries.

I wanted to create something truly personal and colourful – something to be really proud of – a final artwork that would last generations. I love the thought that in designing each piece, that I create a memorial that in hundreds of years time, would still remind people of the significance of the person that lay beneath – that they were loved and very special.
